"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified." 1 Cor 9:24-27
Hello, my name is Pr. Vincent X. Shaw, M.Div.
The body is a gift, that when disciplined, extends peace.
The following styles have influenced my developed technique: * Apprentice Instructor in the MAHAL group, Martial Arts for Higher Awareness and Living * Jeet Kune Do - Bruce Lee's original style of The Way of the Intercepting Fist highly shapes my teaching competencies * Aikido - using the attacker's strength and overcoming with gentleness * Taekwondo - speed, health, balance, agility, strategy * Krav Maga - How to survive real combat scenarios * Additionally: Muay Thai, Kali, FMA, grappling, Kinamotay, Wing Chun, Kung-Fu, Hapkido, Tai-Chi, and various weapons training. * Military Edged Weapons Instructorship Certification * Law Enforcement Arrest & Control Instructorship Certification
My relevant history as an instructor: * While in the military, I have had the pleasure of training under Olympians. * I have highlighted numerous demonstrations and scheduled events, even between differing styles. * I have equipped almost 100 ladies in self-defense classes. * I've placed in competitions and officiated as a sparring referee during junior regional competition. * As an ordained Christian pastor, I gift my students a deeper spirituality that manifests in peace and joy.
A class full of smiles, working hard
Along with weekly class, my students truly appreciate the one-on-one privates. It allows maximum growth in the shortest time possible, completely customized for you. Class with other students is not only fun and social, but allows learning in a relaxed yet disciplined environment, geared for real growth. The great Bruce Lee would say, "Turn your sparring into play -- but always play seriously."
